Who Qualifies for Medical Marijuanas PA?

Do you want to know if your illness makes you eligible for the Medical Marijuana Program of Pennsylvania? This program aims to provide patients suffering from particular medical conditions easy access to medical marijuana in a safer and more effective way. Currently, there are 21 conditions that are included in the program.

If your illness happens to be on the list of the qualifying conditions, then you should visit the patient and caregiver registry of the state’s Department of Health.   14. Glaucoma
  15. Epilepsy
  16. Dyskinetic Disorders

  18. Cancer
  19. Autism
  20. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
  21. Nervous tissue damage

Patient Qualifications

In order for the patient to be part of the program, he or she must:

  • Be 18 years of age. For patients under the age of 18, an approved caregiver will be registered on the patient’s behalf.
  • Be a resident of the state of Pennsylvania. Proof of residency will have to be provided, such as state-issued ID card or driver’s license.
  • Create a profile on the website of Patients & Caregivers Registry.

What Are the Steps?

If you think that you qualify for the program, the first thing that you need to do is to create a Patient Profile at the registry. After creating a profile, you need to be evaluated by a physician and be given a certification. The certification should confirm that you are indeed suffering from any of the conditions stated above.

After you obtain the certification from a certified physician, you will be asked to pay $50 for the ID card. Take note that this fee is non-refundable. You can avail of a discount on the fee if you can provide proof that you are participating in the PACE/ PACENET, Medicaid, SNAP, CHIP, or WIC program. After your application is approved, your Medical Marijuanas PA Identification Card will then be sent to the address that you have provided on your application.

The Medicinal Marijuana Program in Pennsylvania was approved by the Senate in April 12, 2016, and was signed into law in April 17, 2016. After it was signed into law, all state-level penalties on the use and possession of medical marijuana were effectively removed.
