Weed has been around for thousands of years, and it’s been recorded in both Ancient Chinese and Greek texts.
This being the case, it’s nothing new to modern humans, and its consumption (mainly through the combustion of cannabis’ plant parts) should be considered as natural as getting sunlight in the morning. There are many ways to smoke or consume cannabis, and we’ve lined up our favorite methods below.
Methods and Tools for Smoking Cannabis
There are multiple methods to get the good stuff into your system through combustion, which is the most straightforward method of consuming weed.
The smoking pipe
The most common smoking device used for cannabis is the smoking pipe. Smoking pipes come in a vast array of shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are only a few inches long, while others can be Hookah-type pipes that are at least a foot long. The builds also differ: some are made from glass, while others are made from wood.
Smoking pipes are popular mainly because they’re small, portable, and relatively easy to use. Due to their popularity, the market prices are competitive too, and if you are strapped for cash, you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a conveniently affordable smoking pipe.
Some smoking pipes also come in camouflage designs, so they don’t immediately resemble smoking pipes. This is a good idea if you live in a house where other members disapprove of legal cannabis use.
The water pipe
Water pipes have different styles. The smaller ones are referred to as bongs, and they only have a small quantity of water before leading the smoke upward to the main mouthpiece. Bubblers on the other hand, are full-sized contraptions that you have to hold with both hands in order to operate properly.
People use water pipes mainly to cool down the smoke before inhaling it. But whether the water has an impact on the weed itself has not been studied thoroughly.
The rolling paper
The iconic rolling paper was originally used for cigarettes before it was adapted for smoking weed. There are two types of rolling paper. The first one is just plain paper and is made from a variety of materials, like bamboo and other plants normally used for manufacturing paper pulp.
You are rolling a joint if there is no nicotine or tobacco included in the equation. If you smoke cigarettes and would like to have that hit of nicotine that is commonly associated with tobacco, in addition to the benefits of weed, then what you need is cigar paper.
Cigar paper is manufactured directly from the tobacco plant, and the paper itself has nicotine content. Weed that is wrapped with cigar paper are called blunts.
The hookah is of Persian origins, and its use has also been traced to ancient India. The device is comprised of a hose with a mouthpiece connected to a glass base. The combustion takes place above, in the clay bowl, which has a screen and wind cover.
A series of metal connectors and down-stems connect the combustion chamber with the glass base, where smoke rises to be consumed by the user.
Weed tends to combust more quickly in hookahs, which wastes the precious crop. This is why many people combine tobacco leaves and weed when using hookahs to consume weed. However, if you are iffy about the health problems brought about by tobacco, you may not want to do that.
