If you’re thinking of growing cannabis in your home but you don’t have enough space, you may want to consider growing it in space buckets. These buckets are easy to build and will allow you to cultivate your cannabis crops in a more practical and efficient way. Unlike the other methods of cultivating cannabis at home, the basic starter Space Bucket will not cost you a lot of money. In fact, you can make one for less than $100.
What is a Space Bucket?
The space bucket is a type of bucket in which you can grow your cannabis plant. It combines all of the essential elements of a grow room into a smaller self-contained bucket. Yet, it has enough space to grow a small cannabis plant and can provide the right amount of lighting, power supply, and ventilation for the plant to thrive. A typical space bucket is usually made out of a 5-gallon bucket, although the final design will vary depending on your preferences and the available space in your home. Others make their space buckets out of waste bins and storage totes.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Build a Space Bucket
Here are the steps to build a space bucket.
- Build the Drip Tray
Measure 8 cm from the bottom of the bucket towards the top and draw a line across. Use a rotary tool to cut the line and divide the bucket into two. Set aside the bottom part of the bucket which will serve as your drip tray. The top portion is the space bucket.
- Drill Holes for Drainage
To drill the holes, start by turning your bucket upside down. Drill 12 holes that are of the same size and make sure they’re evenly distributed. Take the handle off. This will be your space bucket, which should sit right on top of a drip tray.
- Lock the Two Buckets Together
Drill four holes at the bottom part of the space bucket. The holes should be around 4 cm from the top rim and evenly spaced. Attach a bolt on each hole and tighten them. Place the top portion of the bucket into the bottom portion by letting it sit on the bolts. Put a mark on where the bolts are and use the rotary tool to draw an L shape. Place the top section into the bottom. Line up the bolts with that of the channels in such a way that the top portion will drop down over to the bottom. Lock them up by twisting.
You now have a space bucket. All you need now are the LED lighting and the fans to provide light and air to your plant.
